Service Animals and Depression

They’re trained to give hugs, kisses, and a furry shoulder to cry on. Therapy dogs are often used in group homes to provide emotional support for individuals who feel like they are unapproachable or undesirable, but increasingly they’re being used by individuals who seek canine companionship.

Emotional support dogs and psychiatric service dogs are specially-trained pets that provide special services to people undergoing mental health problems. They’re regarded as an excellent treatment supplement for disorders like depression, anxiety, phobias, and PTSD.
