Mental Health Association Oklahoma’s Fashion Show
“It was renewing to my spirit,” one attendee commented at the end of the Eleventh Annual Fashion and Talent Showcase last Friday night. This is a perfect way to describe this inspirational event that the Mental Health Association Oklahoma along with other sponsors puts on every year. The show’s participants who model with some performing a talent as well are made up of individuals who receive mental health treatment at various facilities in Tulsa. Each participant is fitted for an outfit that they get to keep, and on the night of the event they have their hair and make-up done by local professional stylists who donate their time. The love and support felt at this event is overwhelming as each person is cheered for as they walk onto the stage. It was once again emceed by Channel 8’s Kristin Dickerson who’s passion and enthusiasm plays a huge part in the the spirit of the evening. Brookhaven Hospital was proud to be one of the sponsors this year, and I was honored to be part of the planning committee for the show. This event highlights everything that is hopeful about our community, and abolishes stigma surrounding mental illness as it shows us that we are all in this together.
