Is Steroid Rage Real?

A study conducted by Beaver et al, published in the American Journal of Public Health 2008, December; 98: 2185, confirms that anabolic steroids are a factor in violent behavior outbursts. For a long time clinicians have thought that steroid use may be a factor in violent conduct and crimes, particularly involving young males. This study confirms the role of anabolic steroids in behavioral dyscontrol. Clinicians need to consider the individual's lifestyle activities, patterns of behavior, level of aggressivity, temper control problems and use of anabolic steroids in addition to asking about criminal involvement during an assessment.
