Brookhaven’s first Ethics Seminar will be held on Friday May 8th, 2020. Dr. Michael O’Brien will present “Ethical Issues in Assessment.”
This presentation will review the role of ethical assessment in counseling and addictions counseling. Ethical standards regarding interview as assessment and the role of testing procedures that counselors can use will be discussed. The review will include state licensure standards and codes of ethics standards for counselors regarding assessment and testing.
Dr. Michael O’Brien is an associate Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Mid-America Christian University. Their program offers licensure eligible master’s degrees in mental health counseling, addictions counseling, and marriage and family therapy through in-person or online programs. He has more than 40 years’ experience as a clinician, professor, and administrator. He has an earned master’s degree from Chadron State College (Nebraska) and an Ed.D. from Oklahoma State University. He is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist (CVE), Registered Professional Vocational Evaluation Specialist (PVE), and holds the International Psychometric Evaluation Certification (IPEC). He has more than 180 international, national, regional, and state publications and refereed/invited presentations. He is a four time national Institute on Rehabilitation Issues Scholar. At MACU he teaches courses in addiction and mental health counseling. His private practice focuses exclusively on testing and assessment.
