Brookhaven’s Professional Seminar Series
Part of my job as Education Outreach Coordinator is organizing our ongoing Seminar Series. Lately, the topics of our seminars have related directly to my life.
Earlier this month, Joanna Majka, from the Tristesse Grief Center, presented “Exploring the Grief Experience.” Next month, Sheri Mashburn will present, “The Benefits of a Therapy Dog Team” on December 2nd. In between these two seminars, I had to say goodbye to my furry child (some might call him a dog). His name was Memphis (pictured here), and he was 14 years old. In his laid back yet devoted and steadfast way, he taught me a lot about patience and unconditional love. There is a hole in our family right now as we continue to miss him. There is a longing that comes with grieving–a longing for the one you’ve lost and a yearning that things would have worked out differently. It is an opportunity to practice acceptance and to move forward with an open heart. Memphis never seemed to have a fear or care in the world and always expected whoever he met to have a treat for him–not a bad way to move through this life.
We hope you will be able to join us for one of our upcoming seminars. Our series occurs on the first Wednesday of every month from 11:15 am-1:00 pm with lunch and 1.5 Continuing Education Units provided. Call 918-625-5188 for more information.
