Brookhaven on the Road in October

The month of October offers a packed schedule of events for the staff at Brookhaven Hospital and several opportunities for you to connect with us in the community. Starting on the 2nd day of the month, we will be exhibiting at the 19th Annual Case Management Society of America Oklahoma Chapter conference being held at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Norman, OK. With the theme of “Celebrating Case Management- Made in Oklahoma”, the event will showcase presenters with roots ties to the state; as well as all the innovative teams and treatment that is currently taking place across Oklahoma. Also, with the introduction of ‘Vendoropoly’ the attendees have the opportunity to gain additional  1.0 credit hours by educating themselves with the vendors present to be in the know of all facilities and programs available as resources. Later in the first week of the month, Brad Hendrix, Brain Injury Case Manager/Outreach, will travel to St. Charles, Missouri, to exhibit at the 8th Annual Brain Injury Association of Missouri Conference at the St. Charles Convention Center. As an educational tool for professionals, survivors and their families, Brookhaven always tried to support the organization in all their community events to support their genuine cause.  As a bonus this year, Brookhaven’s Neurological Rehabilitation Institute Director, Brian Boatwright, Psy.D., will be participating in a lunch panel to discuss the neurobehavioral treatment program at NRI. The second week of the month, one of Brookhaven’s key staff CEO, Rolf B. Gainer, Ph.D., will be traveling to Albuquerque, NM, for the 2012 Southwest Conference on Disability. This year the Southwest Conference has created a brain injury special interest group and has scheduled the presentations to focus on brain injury. With a conference emphasis on behavioral health services for people living with a disability through high quality service partnership, Brookhaven is proud to be part of this annual event. Dr. Rolf Gainer will be presenting on “Did Travis Bickel Have a Brain Injury: Assessing the potential for violence in individuals with traumatic brain injury”. Hosted at the Albuquerque Convention Center, the event is also host to the exclusive Gene & Dave Show. For more information on this particular event, click here.  Also taking place during the 2012 Southwest Conference on Disability is the 41st Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Festival, where nearly 800 balloons from all over the World take flight during this exquisite event; for more information click here.

Following the Southwest Disability Conference, on Sunday, October 14th Dr. Rolf Gainer will be speaking at the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners annual conference also held in Albuquerque. Dr. Gainer’s presentation will be “The New Normal: What Really is an Outcome from Brain Injury”. This presentation addresses aspects of long term brain injury and life after rehabilitation for people living with a brain injury disability. The American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners is an important organization linking nurses with life care planning expertise and providing them with resources and training opportunities. Later in the month but staying in the beautiful locating of Albuquerque, Brookhaven will be exhibiting at the Case Management Society of America- Rio Grande Chapter located at the Marriott. With an all-star lineup of presenters and a theme of ‘A Case Management Odyssey’ this event should prove to be out of this World. For more information on this particular event, click here.
