Rolf B. Gainer, PhD, Diplomate ABDA, is the Chief Executive Office at Brookhaven Hospital and the Vice President of Rehabilitation Institutes of America. He is the founder of the Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute of Ontario (Canada). Dr. Gainer has been involved in the design and operation of treatment programs since 1978. He has published numerous articles on mental health and rehabilitation topics and has presented at many national and international conferences. He remains active in outcome research.
Dr. Rolf B. Gainer was invited to serve on the panel of distinguished authors for The Essential Brain Injury Guide, Edition 5.0 released by the Brain Injury Association of America. Dr. Gainer’s chapter on the “Psychosocial Complications of Brain Injury” addresses the psychiatric and neurobehavioral problems which can occur for individuals with brain injuries. The Essential Brain Injury Guide, Edition 5.0, a comprehensive brain injury training manual, is used in the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialist training programs and in other settings.
Mark D. Gage, DO, is the Medical Director for Brookhaven Hospital. He is board certified in psychiatry and is a graduate of Western University of Health Sciences. In addition to his studies in psychiatry, Dr. Gage completed his undergraduate work in psychology at Chapman University. He brings over seventeen years of experience in psychiatry to Brookhaven.
Dr. Stansill is our Associate Medical Director and Internal Medicine doctor. He attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He did his training at OU School of Medicine – Tulsa. He spent many years working in a traditional outpatient setting as a primary care physician in Tulsa. He has recently acquired an interest in treating pain and addiction to those pain medicines with Suboxone. He recently entered his 14th year as an Internal Medicine physician working with our Traumatic Brain Injury patients on our NRI unit. He enjoys spending time with his wife, young son and their dogs and backyard chickens.
Dr. Naveen Kumar is a staff psychiatrist at Brookhaven Hospital. He holds licensures in Psychiatry, Neurology, and Addiction Medicine. Following the completion of his residency from the University of Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Dr. Kumar has served in a number of mental health centers in Oklahoma, as well as work within the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Paul Cochran, MD, is a graduate of University of Oklahoma Medical School and holds board certifications in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Psychiatry. His experience includes founding and operating free clinics, practicing emergency medicine in area hospitals and serving as the Director of EMS Boards for Wagoner and Creek counties.
Charles D. Van Tuyl, MD earned an M.D. from the University of Oklahoma in `1987. He has served as a psychiatrist in McAlester, Oklahoma and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Prior to entering the medical profession, he taught at Bacone College and has also published several scholarly books including a Handbook of the Cherokee Verb and a translation of Athanasius Kircher’s China Illustrata (1667) from the original Latin into English.
Coby D. Nirider, PT, DPT, is the Chief Clinical Officer at Brookhaven Hospital. Dr. Nirider has over 16 years of experience treating individuals with TBI and Stroke in the post-acute residential and outpatient settings. He received his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 1999 and Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2010. Dr. Nirider is currently an Adjunct Professor in Nova Southeastern University’s Transitional DPT Program. He has several peer-reviewed research publications and has co-authored chapters in rehabilitation texts.
Ros Burrows, Ph.D. is a neuropsychologist and the NRI Program Director. Dr. Burrows has over 25 years experience treating individuals with traumatic brain injury in post-acute and residential settings. He received his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and he previously served as Vice President for the Oklahoma Brain Injury Association.
Debbie Jones, RN, CBIS, is the Director of Nursing at Brookhaven Hospital. Debbie brings over ten years of nursing experience to Brookhaven. She obtained her degree in nursing from Sanford Brown Business College, St. Peters, MO. Debbie is also a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.
Janice Ponds, LADC, CBIS, is the Director of Utilization Review at Brookhaven Hospital. She holds a B.S. in Education from N.C. A&T State University; a M.A. in Special Education/School Psychology from Ohio State University; and did post graduate studies in clinical psychology at the University of Virginia. Janice’s experience as a teacher; school psychologist; psychiatric counselor; clinical director; substance abuse treatment program coordinator, director, and supervisor; a certified brain injury specialist; clinical consultant; and a licensed therapist have given her insight into practical ways to understand and effectively help individuals from all walks of life.
Bih Numfor is a certified family nurse practitioner who provides medical consultation and management of acute and chronic medical conditions for the patients at Brookhaven Hospital. She completed her undergraduate degree at Langston University, graduating with a BSN in 2009. She completed her graduate studies at Oklahoma City University, earning a doctorate nurse practitioner degree. She is also a licensed registered nurse.
Kari Featherngill is the Director of Social Work, overseeing Therapists as well as Social Workers at Brookhaven Hospital. Kari received her Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern State University in Sociology and her Master of Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. She has experience as a case manager with severe mentally ill individuals as well as people who are chronically suicidal.
