Keep Your Heart Healthy to Keep Your Brain Healthy
For women over the age of 65, cardiovascular health can play a significant role in avoiding cognitive decline and dementia. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic found that heart disease can be linked to mental decline in both men and women, but the association is strongest in women.
Specifically, mild cognitive impairment occurs often in patients with poor cardiovascular health. This affects memory and other brain functions, but is considered a mild form of dementia and often does not lead to Alzheimer’s.
Still, early detection is always key so this link between heart health and mental health is a positive step to identifying those at risk.
