New research suggests that family members of stroke victims play an important role in keeping the victim healthy during and after recovery. One in three stroke victims will develop depression afterwards and research suggests that depression then increases the patient’s likelihood of dying early by three times and they are four times as likely to suffer another stroke, which would be fatal.
